History
This is 1286, she's my 1987 Hino school bus.
I used to ride these classics to and from school, and eventually I figured I'd buy one after falling for their charm.
1286 has been restored to original appearance inside and out, and is part of a sizeable collection of restored historic buses owned by a small group of individuals, with hopes to form SA's first bus museum eventually.
This fleet of PMC Adelaide bodied Hinos were built as no-frills rugged school buses. And all lived long lives providing reliable service for schools across rural SA.
1286 isn't exactly a McLaren F1 out on the open road, with only 165hp coming from her front-mounted 7 litre diesel and that slushy Allison auto bolted on behind, it's sometimes a struggle to get all 7.5 tonnes up to speed quickly. Although she can be encouraged to 100kmh, the engine is redlining and your left ear bleeding slightly.
All part of the character of these bulletproof old buses.
