History
This Skyline GTS 1 was produced by Nissan Special Vehicles in 1988, number 107 of 200 produced. I have been lucky to have been the owner of this car for the last 4 years. The vehicle was mostly restored nearly 10 years ago and I have completed the restoration over the period of my ownership. I first laid eyes on this particular example when it featured in a magazine just after its initial restoration. I had wanted one from when the cars were new but was never in the position to purchase a good example. After having owned a number of Skyline Silhouette's over the years, after selling my last one, I found myself able to buy this car and snapped it up. I knew it was going to be good and bought it over the phone, I was very pleased to see the car in person the day I picked it up, the previous owners having spent a lot of time and money bringing the car up to standard, I further helped it along to get it where it is now. These are becoming increasingly rare with what is to be believed less than 40 of the 200 examples still surviving intact. The car is always popular at car shows with previous owners delighting in sharing their Skyline stories while checking out the car.
Modifications
Nissan Special Vehicles Division modified a number of areas of the car as part of the package. Based on the Silhouette model, the car was upgraded with larger 16 inch wheels with upgraded tyres, larger front struts from the Japanese Domestic Market Skyline GTS-R with larger brake rotors and calipers, Bilstein shock absorbers, larger diameter sway bars and the motor upgraded with a modified cylinder head, camshaft, extractors and external oil cooler. This lifted the output from 118kW to 130Kw. Externally different with all white paintwork with black highlights, blue pinstriping and badging. The cars featured a locally designed front and rear spoiler as well as a different grill to the standard skyline. Inside the car was fitted with body hugging Scheel seats, Momo steering wheel and upgraded sound system. The cars were praised by the local motoring magazines for their fantastic handling and braking, so much so that the Tasmanian Police Force purchased 6 for use as Highway Patrol cars at the time. The initial 6 were followed by another 6, the later GTS 2 models such was the success of the first cars.
