History
With no mechanical knowledge or interest, when it came to my first car my parents suggested I get a new car, something economical as I was on apprentice wages. My parents had recently bought a new Holden from Lance Motors at St Marys, NSW and took me over to see what they had. A HA Viva demonstrator was on offer and I soon signed up to take it with the addition of a 'go fast' stripe, sun visor, weather shield and dress rims.
It was a good little car, did lots of miles taking me to Tech College at Granville a couple of times a week and a mate and I took it on a holiday to Rockhampton. It didn't seem to matter if it was local or long distance use it returned 40mpg.
A clutch was the only repair other than regular services. I remember my old garage mechanic shaking his head one Saturday when I rolled in with it running roughly. He simply opened the bonnet and replaced a spark plug lead that had fallen off and sent me on my way.
It was traded in 1972 on a new LC Torana 1600 which for many reasons was probably the worst car I was ever to own. Another story.
The photos shows it bogged in soft sand on one of my adventures.
