History
As a young 17 year old fresh out of school, I was after my first car which had to be a Valiant. Having learnt to drive in the family "S" series Val it was the obvious choice despite all the ribbing I received from my mates because of the Valiant "thing" in that era. I was specifically after a VC Valiant for which I had saved a whole $1,650 , not bad seeing I was earning less than $4,000 a year, in a good bank job mind you! Dad came home from work one day and said a workmate was selling his VF Hardtop for $1,850. I had a look at it & fell in love immediately. As I was $200 short, Dad offered to lend it to me on the proviso I paid it back. I bought the car and paid back the borrowed money to Dad.
Way back then drive-in theatres were the go so many a night spent going to one of the many Adelaide drive-ins. Lots of driving, both around Adelaide, in the country and even several big interstate trips. Never ever had a drama with the old girl. No aircon, but driving to work in 40 degree plus days was the norm. Had great times and the memories are unforgettable.
That was September 1976 when I bought it. Moving on 40 years (I'm now 58 )and I STILL have my Val. I will never part with it, my 16 year old son cant wait to inherit it.
