History
This was the first licensed car I bought as a P-Plater. I graduated school and got a job in several factories in Albany and on farms around the district. My uncle mentioned that one of his relatives was selling the HR as he was going back to the UK after 6 weeks or so holiday in WA.
I bought the HR for $600 and promptly started adding spotlights and roobar, hot dog on the back and a new coat of paint within the year.
This car lasted 7 years - I courted my wife on the benchseat of this old girl and once we were married I taught my wife to drive in it! There were some definite advantages to no heater in some of the old cars!
I needed to fit new rings after about 100000 miles but generally she was a very reliable tidy car.
161 with the standard carby etc. three on the tree with no syncro on first!
The only issue was some rust in the front subframes - which we welded up and then eventually the rear window rust got too much and I decided to sell the old girl when I came across the BeaXT.
We still get a little nastalgic when we see HRs at the car shows even today!
If anyone knows the name of the paint I would appreciate an email!
