History
Went to Brisvegas in 2001 with my GF. She bought this car and received an engagement ring at the same time.
We bought it with fresh custom carpets and retrimmed seats and about 63,000kms on the odometer. It’s now got 126,000, even though it was being driven nearly 100km per day for work for many years.
We have since looked after it, driven lots, been in car clubs, car shows and even done a few laps of Eastern Creek Raceway.
Future plans were to rebuild the engine for mild performance, further improve suspension and finish off with a custom paint job.
But sometimes plans change. In 2012 I was lucky to obtain a wrecked Sera with 4EFTE turbo engine from an EP82 Starlet GT, so I swapped the turbo motor into ours.
It now has a good 20% power increase and is more fun from a drivers perspective.
And of course, power upgrades with a turbo engine are much cheaper at first.
In 2015 we were looking at restoring the paint work - it was in excellent condition for a 25 year old car, but just starting to wear thin in a couple of places. To our surprise, we went with a vinyl colour change - the harlequin wrap protects the factory paint and is easily reversed.
The Toyota Sera (EXY10) was shown as a concept at Auto shows in 1989 and entered production in 1990. Almost 9,000 vehicles were manufactured in the first year and production tapered off through to 1995 after almost 16,000 Seras were produced.
As of 2007, there were 104 registered in NSW, no doubt this is a rare car now.
