History
AF3 car. Delivery date 30 Jun 1976 - with MI Corolla Motor. First owner Geoff Phillips, then Ian Richards. Ian Richards, converted to Formula 2 using a Golf motor in a unique slanted configuration. Richards sold it to Tom Monro (or Monroe) as a rolling chassis in 1980. History in that period not known. It next appears in an Escada Finance yard and was bought by Peter Smeets, still as a roller. Then to Graham Sharley who fitted a Toyota Celica engine and got the log book S1252 which is still with the car (2006). Sold to Adam Kaplan (Sydney) then to Gordon Dowthwaite (me) around 1992/93.
The tub was repair by Brain Shead and I restored it back to basically original condition, but with the more common Motor Improvements Celica setup. I never raced it but drove it on several ocassions and found it fantastic to steer.
Change of circumstances forced me to let it go - sold to Leon Edwards (2008) who intended to restore to the Ian Richards Golf configuration and use the Celica motor in another Cheetah.
The Cheetah has long been one of my all time favourites and I was honoured to own this car, even for only a while.
