History
unable to turn back the clock to 1976 and buy this car of the showroom floor, i performed my own time travel wizardy in my backyard and stripped the car back to bare shell, i would buold a new golf mk1 with number of custom upgrades. the proccess started with the body work, an ardous but ultimatley rewarding task. over the course of one year, i blocked snaded the shell and hanging pannels 5 times to avoid the use of body filler, then rented a spray booth and sprayed the car myself in the original ivory. get up close and personal with the paint and you would be a brave soul to find the slightest flaw.
A 2.0 16v engine found its way into the shaved engine bay, treated with a pair of weber dcoe 45s, hand made fuel pressure lines, msd msd 6al ignition, tt racing down pipe mated with a catback magna flow exhaust, cooling the 16v has been improved with a 2 core aluminium radiator with the fans repositioned to aid airflow.
the transmission is 020 late model 5 speed, with black diamond carbon clutch and plate, and gear selection is shortened with a short shifter and weight. the popular mk3 brake booster and master cylinder upgrade was installed with a wilwood adjustable proprtional valve was plumbed into the 2 into four brake line conversion to accommodate the rear brake rotors and calipers conversion.
The bc racing fully adjustable coilovers front and back has been installed into the shock towers and wheel are now bbs rs 15x7 front and 15x8.5 rear with the tyre combohave the right amount of stretched to snug in perfectly within the guards.
the s2 dash and loom was retuned to the interior, with the wires now joined with quick connectors to a separate fuse box. additional vdo guages have founf their way into the centre console with an AFR SYSTEM installed to moniter the 45s performance. i chose the black brown and ivory as the theme, so i restored the intorior im my garage in the factory brown, fitting an ivory headliner and detailing the black dash. the only departure from the theme was the chrome stibby window winders, which cleverly dont clash with the rest of the interior. at this point of the build, i had a set back with a ruptured bicep, so the build slowed some gow, but managed with the help of my wife wgi stepped in during this time tp finish the final details
