History
1980 Honda CX500 Shadow purchased by current owner - the third owner - in 1996 at which time it had travelled ~24,000kms.
This motorcycle has NOT been restored – it has simply been kept clean, fully maintained and garaged when not in use.
The paintwork, decals, badges, screen, seat, lenses, rubber components, chrome/alloy components, exhaust system (with the exception of the mufflers which were replaced in 1996 with genuine parts), engine cases, wheel rims, shock absorbers, etc are all original from when this motorcycle was first purchased in 1980. None of these items have been replaced, repainted, recovered, re-chromed or polished.
As at May 2020 this CX500 has been ridden almost ~80,000 kms, has been ridden to rallies up to 1,500 kms away from it's home location and has never broken down.
It was also ridden to the first Snowy Rode in 2001 and will be ridden to the last Snowy Ride in 2021!
The only mechanical work this bike has needed over the last 40 years has been the replacement of one mechanical seal, a stator rewind and the replacement of the valve stem seals.
Modifications
For safety reasons the original sealed beam headlight was replaced with a quartz halogen headlight (from a 1981 CX500 Shadow) and the original rubber brake lines were replaced with braided stainless steel lines.
