History

Ahh the Miata once you gotten the taste for the fun driving style of this Japanese roadster with a bit of a british bite you can never go back to anything else. After I had lost the Green 99' NB to the Easter Sunday of 2023 I was on the hunt for a new car. Now just for reference (As seen in the other post) I had only owned that Green Machine for only about six months but throughout those six month I Had learned valuable lessons one being don't just buy it for its km's buy it for it service and reliability history and most of all... MAKE SURE IT IS NOT A PARTS PROJECT IN WAITING. So with that being said I was looking for a new car and some of the cars I went through were interesting. I started at looking at JDM Icon dream car being the GC8 WRX but by the time I was looking they were approaching the $20,000 to $30,000 dollar mark which for a turbo pocket rocket with more problems than a someone with daddy issues I had to pass up on that tempation (Also the last car got wreck with half the power I would hate to see what would've if it had of been a WRX (Insert Shudder)). So I started looking a good old reliable NA Miata's which were still in my price range so the search was on. Throughout my looking the prices were resable and the cars were decent and for the most part they came with service and history papers which was great, the bad part was that they were Eunos and dad wasn't too keen on me getting a grey import car but I persisted and I eventually found a 89 BRG Limited Edition Eunos in ACT. The car came in the desirable beige leather interior, Hardtop, Automatic and even a steering wheel cover with Eunos logo. Problem was that when we inquired into the KMS of the car it turned out the seller had still been using the car and had added a total of 40,000kms extra to what was being advertised so we moved on. But on the up side I had gotten a ton of cash thanks to the insurance payout from the crash and Tax return (Which equaled to $12,000 dollars all up) so now with all this money I was on the hunt for A red MX-5. By the time it had gotten to the tail end of the year I was getting my license back (from getting caught by hidden car speeding cameras Yarra bend 3 time) I was getting close to Miata season, Summer Time. But luckily for me a ad popped up for a Red 2003 NB Mazda MX-5 with 103,000kms and for sale in Toorak but it was $25,000 and I only had $15,000 so I had some time to go. But I did ask my dad to ask the seller about his car. My dad looked at some of the photos of the car and realized some time after that the guy was in one of the photos was someone he use to work with back at his old job. So dad gave him a call and had a good chat, good thing was the guy was happy to have me and dad go and have a look at the car. Dad had given me some info about that made me nervous but that all went away when I met him, He was super friendly, shook my hand, gave me a big rundown of the cars history and service life which was squeaky clean and let us have a test drive. Once that was all done dad told him the Young Fella (Me) Needed to get some money for RWC, But this guy the legend he was would tell other interested in the car that we were already making the steps to buy the car (So essentially for the time being took it off the market which was very very kind of him). The car came from the RWC Check with flying colors and we were even told by the checker that the car was one of the clean and mechanically well MX-5s he had seen telling us we would be stupid to pass up on it. So the next week while i was in pre production for my Uni film (oh Yeah i was at uni while this was all going on) We went back and saw the Guy and made a price offer of $17,500 (Excluding Government charges) and the Legend there and then shook my hand and told me that the car is ours. Finally after the heartache of losing the last Miata I had a new one to fill that void of the possible journeys I could've had with my old Miot now I could fulfill them with the New Miot and to say I was happy is a understatement. So a week went by and after I had finished me and mates Uni films I walk to parliament station took the train home, got the car paper work done and ready told my little sister that she could come along to pick up the car if she wanted (Which she said yes) and at 4:30 we set off. We got to the sellers house at 5:00 we went in signed the paper, Got offered a drink dad and him had a chat and then it was time to set off and that we did. Me and My sister drove along bay road listening to the banger Just Around the Corner By Herbie Hancock. We got home and I was super happy and proud to have the car in the driveway. and Now we get to 2025 and in the past 2 or 3 (not good with numbers) years of ownership the car has run flawlessly with only me taking the bumper off and running into a bollard being its only faults (courtesy of me). The engine has not once broken down. I have taken this car Camping, Taken it on the Annual Fro Bro Great Ocean Road Summer Drive, I've taken the car on nights out and date nights, even night country drives. This car has been the way car ownership should feel in the Best of ways. The car has been driven, enjoyed, loved, cleaned and most of all put a smile on everyone who has seen it's iconic Miot smile and to say I will be selling it anytime soon... You must be dreaming Mate.
