I worked in London for a new car dealer and this was traded in on a new Ford Escort in early 1973. We gave him £15 for it, as it had been painted with house paint including the inside. Most of the red paint peeled off in sheets, so much of the original paint was showing. I paid the boss the same as what we paid for it, and that included £9 rego, so I really got a 13 year old Mercedes complete with working Blaupunkt radio for £6. It cost me £25 to park it in the Royal Borough of Kensington where I was sharing a flat. I used it for another 9 months without any problems and when I was returning to Australia contemplated driving it home. Two things got in the way - a bond of about £3000 to drive into India and the 1973 Yom Kippur War in the Middle East broke out. Thinking I was going to have to abandon it in a London back street, a very inebriated Irishman in a Kilburn pub gave me £45 for it - 3 times what I paid for it. Whatever became of you, 340NPD?
