History
I have had this car for about 10 years now and still love driving it. I have made a few enhancements since owning it and virtually modified, replaced or repaired everything mechanical on it, save for a couple of items. But they are on the hit list too :) I had a bingle in the front end several years ago and replaced it with Series 2 bits, I think the Series 2 front end looks much smarter.
This vehicle seems to be at the stage now where it really only gains interest from enthusiasts. There is still a few to be found around the country, some in good working order, some not. I just recently purchased another one, which is in excellent condition, bar the gearbox, and with 6 months rego on it. I am the third owner of the car since it was built. I purchased it as a parts car mainly, as bits and pieces are getting harder and harder to find, it is almost too good for that though. But if I cannot do anything with the gearbox without major expense then it will remain off the road and be relegated to a donor car :)
There is many things I like about the HC 929, some have been innovations by Mazda, the styling certainly does not scream at you, which is fine by me, but among the many things I love about the car now, is its relative uniqueness and rarity :)
Modifications
Current Mods;
- Free flow Custom stainless muffler and 2.5" single exhaust
- Kmac lowered springs with Kmac camber kit
- Mazda RX7 FD3S Turbo Torsen LSD
- 17 x 7.5 Chrome with 245/45x17 Tyres
- Tinted windows
- Australia made Stratos front Sports Seats
- Subtle custom retrimmed interior
- Momo steering wheel
- Autron Cruise Control with steering wheel controls
- Aftermarket keyless entry
- Alpine stereo head unit, Kenwood speakers and boot mounted Alpine CD/MP3 changer and amplifier
Mods/updates to come (not necessarily in any particular order);
- Updated keyless entry
- Headlight auto switch and electric window auto closer
- 18" x 7.5/8.5" rims
- Uprated brakes, i.e. changing rears to series 2 ventilated discs
- Full Davies Craig cooling including electric water pump and controller. The standard cooling is more than adequate, but it drives a clutch fan which can be rather noisy when it kicks in. By changing the clutch fan to a thermo fan and removing the mechanical water pump with an electric one it will also free up some power from the engine. Every little bit helps :)
- Cold Air Intake
