History
Originally a Laguna Hills California USA car. This 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car was sold to me as "a best in Australia" example. Not saying it's "the" best - but it's up there. One of my best mates said "don't drive it" lol. So Why the 79? Well, here's my quick story. When I visited The Gilmour Museum in Michigan USA (and seen on a Fletch Tour) back in 2012, on display (and still is) was a 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car. I was amazed why a 79 would be showcased, as usually, museum catagory vehicles are older. It was then when I learned that the 1979 Lincoln was the LAST of the American full-size car. GM & Chrysler had started downsizing around 1976 - but it was Ford that had the tenacity to keep producing the full-size, pretty well undiffered from a decade prior. So there is the signifigance of this car right there.
I said then "yes - I could own a 79". I once had a 1977 LTD Silver Monarch in Australia, it was like new then (in 1990 & 78k km's) I should never have sold it, cannot find another one as good, so this Lincoln is the Trump card over it, as Ford Australia took design from these American jobs.
We only had the choice of a 400 c.i engine & 2 barrel carb, but it's surprising how nice she torques along - effortless & quiet. This car was bought for what it stood for - not because of an attractive 1/4 mile time. The 1979 Lincoln is also one of the most luxurious vehicles built, the finish, & features are outstanding. Everything works as new, papers in the glovebox. The Air Conditioning is icey cold, 100% stock under the hood, it's a time capsule. Yet to be featured on Classic Restos TV. Thank you very much for stopping by to check this one out. Regards Fletch.
