I bought this car from my brother in 1986 for my then fiancé (now wife) to use. After 18 months of use, my brother decided to sell the little wagon and we were lucky enough to buy it at a ‘big discount’. We got the car with 39kks on the clock and I took it upon myself to maintain it thereon. With the advent of computers, I created my first excel car maintenance file (see below) in 1991 on an AT286 computer for this car. It is of significant note that all service items were genuine Honda parts only, not inferior after market products. The engine (touch wood) has never had surgery such as head gaskets, rings pistons etc, it is still intact as delivered from the factory in Japan which is testament to it's build quality, the use of OEM perishables (filters, belts, plugs etc.) and of course the in-house OCD maintenance regime.
Over recent years I have found it increasingly difficult to source genuine filters and other parts as to be expected of a car of this age so closed in on a decision to retire it the club permit system.
The little Honda wagon is not fuel injected, has no power options but it does have an airconditioner – this has never been recharged, in fact it still has the original gas from the factory, and still blows cold in the middle of summer! During the summer it averages approx 7.2l/100km, in winter the consumption can vary from 6.5-7.1l/100km.
Our little family heirloom, my daughter will take it beyond my years!..
