History
Since rebuilding a Fiat 850 sports in the late '70s, the Fiat bug had remained dormant, but in my semi-retirement, to keep me out of mischief, I needed to get my hands dirty again.
The Fiat bug reawakened in late 2010, and the X1/9 was a logical, reasonable choice.
I needed a good body and wasn't particularly worried about the mechanical condition.
I first became interested in this car early in 2011, but the distance and financial constraints did not suit at the time.
This one was a bonus as it was very reasonable mechanically.
In June 2012, my wife and I flew to Hobart, Tasmania and drove it back to Adelaide, South Australia.
I inherited a good deal of information, receipts and pictures with the car, detailing it's history since April 1989 to the present.
I am currently caught between:-
* restoring it to enable Historic Concessional Registration available here in South Oz ( I will need to swap a 1300 engine back in to comply, as it currently has a 1500 Regata 85S motor.) or
* going all out and fit all the performance good bits, carb, extractors, cam, 5-speed etc.
Ideally I should have two cars!, BUT, SWMBO would have something to say about that!
I am currently working on the Serie Speciale decal that was lost in the original restoration in May 1992. - see photo's
