There was a TV show about 2 years ago which went into how this technology was developed - they were actually looking for a self cleaning filter system for medical use. It is based on a butterfly wing which is not incredibly smooth as you might expect but actually quite rough, the trick is that the pointy bits are very close together so the molecules can not get in between them, but the total contact patch is so small they can not grip either. Not sure how it works with dust or more solid dirt - butterflies rarely dip their wings in mud or snow. The incredible part they showed on the TV was fully waterproofing an existing, complete mobile phone, inside and out, in a short time in a special applicator enclosure. But it would be neat to have. Some of the best polymer protectors (I refrain from calling them wax as they are not) almost get close to this. Now, can they work on a paint which self repairs stone and parking chips?
