History
Electric MG-F conversion. I have owned a 1999 MG-F since it was new. It's a great little roadster and I have enjoyed driving it over the years. Unfortunately over the years I have also spent a large amount on engine issues related to the head gasket and cooling issues. So when it gave up for the last time, I was faced with either sending it to the scrap heap or trying to see if it was possible to convert it to electric. With no prior knowledge in engineering, mechanics or electronics I embarked on a journey of converting it to 100% electric, the first of its type in Australia.
Modifications
Complete conversion to electric, over a 2 half-year period in my spare time. The project involved removing original internal combustion engine and components including exhaust & radiator and replacing with electric motor and batteries and gaining VAS engineer approval. 3D printing, laser cut engine mounts, custom billet aluminium motor adaptor plate, Nissan Leaf battery pack - 20kWh, Siemens AC motor capable of outputting 300Nm torque and up to 150Kw power. It's a BLAST to drive and juiced up via home solar & Tesla Wall Battery. More conversion history and extra photos at www.electricmg.com
