History
The C63 AMG is Mercedes' bad-ass halo car; except this dark angel doesn't wear a circle of light. Actually, it Is a bit of a devil. But the sports exhaust is where the real thrill is. Its guttural, masculine howl is the most exciting. The car looks expressive and imposing with its "sheer, extroverted extravagance," but then that rumbling sound from the exhaust is music to the ears. This is not one of those performance sedans designed to be discreet; even with its factory exhaust, your neighbours will hear you coming home every night. No modifications have been made and the original AMG exhaust noise is impressive. If you want your neighbours to still like you, do 'not' buy this car.
When the C63 was released in 2008, I knew I HAD to have one. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, AMG had built the ultimate Jekyll & Hyde mobile. When I heard my neighbour's C63 pull out every morning, that exhaust note sent shivers down my spine and as every 12 year old boy would, dream of owning it one day as it quickly became my favourite car. I couldn't afford to buy a C63 new, so I kept my eye on the second hand market until the prices started to come within reach. As an avid, young car enthusiast, I thought owning a C63 AMG was a pipe dream but I was determined and relentlessly saved up over the next 8 years when the prices continued to drop. I was very picky with what I wanted (Obsidian black/Platinum Black metallic, Gloss black rims, dark tinted windows to give it the VIP-esque look and cream/sand interior to contrast the black), so I've test driven and have inspected close to 30 cars over the past year before I went back to buy the first C63 I test drove making me the happiest 19 year old on earth that day.
In 2010, Mercedes released the Edition 63 exclusively for the Australian market; with a Designo Platinum Black Metallic paint finish, Sand designo/sahara beige leather finish with matching upholstery and double stitching across the dash and doors as well as blue illuminated AMG door sills. From factory, it also came with a high performance locking differential and DTM-Style Alloy Rims finished in titanium grey. This is 1 of 63 Edition 63s in Australia, a recognition of the success and popularity; solidifying its status as an iconic and sought-after car in the Australian market.
It’s been my daily and my weekender ever since I've bought it; clocking over 60,000kms within the first two years of ownership. Over the last 3 years, it has traveled over 145,000kms, retained its signature AMG Exhaust note and never skipped a beat. This further reinforces the bullet-proof nature and design of the M156 6.2 NA V8 engine. I still love it just as much as the day I first drove it. Every morning, the cold start exhaust note never fails to make me smile and giggle like a little kid as it brings joy to my day and life. My neighbours? Well..not so much, especially at 6am on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
My car is permanently on sports mode and if you've seen me driving around, you would've most likely seen me laugh and smile akin to a child with his favourite toy. Still to this day when I pull up at a set of lights; you'll see people drop their windows when they're driving, or take off their earphones while walking, wanting to listen to the beautiful sound that the M156 engine makes, an engine that will go down in history for its raucous exhaust note. That exhaust crackle is addictive. The car isn’t divisive. It doesn’t matter what anybody else drives, if they know cars, they know the C63 badge. Everybody wants to talk about the car, the engine, they want you to rev it or take them for a spin! I’m am a fastidious car enthusiast; I keep my cars in perfect condition and obsess over any small blemish or imperfection until I get it fixed. Its a testament to the immaculate condition the car has been kept in since my ownership.
