History
I never thought I'd find myself owning a Saab, but I'm glad I did. Around 4-5 years ago one of my father's friends who is a long time Saab enthusiast and owner of many models was selling off what he and his family affectionally called "The Jet". When I first drove the car it was like those old Saab ads of the 80s where the torque made you feel you were about to take-off, and instantly got the reference to the jet!
Purely purchased for a fun, run around/weekend drive, I really appreciated the versatility, comfort and good handling of this little known "wolf in sheep's clothing". I've had some reasonably quick cars before but this thing is amazing, still some 19 years young! I did a fair amount research on the brand, which at that time had just been sold off by GM. Everything I read indicated that this was one of the truly special Saabs, a last ditch attempt at pure over-engineered performance before the GM team had all of their models running on Vectra and other GM platforms.
Sitting on a nice stretch of road, overtaking is so effortless, the thing flies out of 3rd and I've read that the acceleration from 80-120 is quicker than the Ferraris and Porches of the same era. And you can do this while comfortably carrying 5, or an outdoor table setting with eight chairs stacked as I once did. The storage space is phenomenal.
With a new addition to the family coming along, only one driver (me) able to shift through the five silky gears and the fact we live in the inner west with no ability to store off-street, it has come time to find a new home for "The Jet".
Modifications
The previous owner said this car had been tuned by Abbott Racing, and the wide exhaust has this logo on it. I've not made any modifications, and it wouldn't take too much to bring this car up to concourse level.
