History
I was dependent on my father for getting my first car due to me having no money and he was paying for it.... and as I worked for him I was to pay off the car. It was 1970 and I was 19. After test driving a stack of cars and falling in love with a 1965 Datsun Bluebird my dad turned up with a Holden FB wagon as Japanese wasn't 'right'... $600
The ol' 138 was worn out.... smoked... On long trips I'd check the petrol and fill 'er up with oil at each stop.... Tried my first head removal with it.... it burnt twice as much oil after that.... Being in the country back then I had no access to go faster goodies... though I didn't have the coin to do much anyway.... Put a Lukey sport exhaust on it.... no headers.... so I had to wind it up too 5000 revs in second to get it to 'make noise'.... trouble is it also valve bounced at 5000...!!! It sounded great on full choke on cold mornings... so that probably wasn't good for the bores due to extended choke times...!!!!! Painted the skinny rims black.... radials.... cut the front coils.... towing over rider springs installed upside down on the back leaf springs.... trouble was I had diff thump if I had bodies in the back seat...!!!!!! Poor thing was driven flat out everywhere... 80MPH top speed... 128KPH... Hit a cow on the pass. side.... had a black new guard on there till I sold it... lost syncro in second... had no money.... so sold in that condition... Stripped the fiber cam gear.... was fruit picking..... so no money made that season...!!!!!
