History
I don’t know much about this car prior to my Dad buying it from Binks Ford, Footscray, in 1980. But the owners manual said, Mr. Barassi, Ford Motor Company. It was a base model Falcon 500, but had been optioned with 4.9 Litre V8, 4-Speed manual floor-shift, limited slip differential, optional alloy wheels (Fairmont GXL style) and ’B2’ Trim option which was black vinyl with houndstooth seat inserts. It had a Cobra style boot spoiler on it, which looked out of place because the car only had the standard single headlight grille and standard bonnet. I got the car from Dad in 1988. I fitted it with a twin headlight grille, bumper bar over-riders, and ’Rally Pack’ dashboard. I removed the boot spoiler when I repainted it in 2000. As plain as it was, it is one of my favourite cars and I regret getting rid of it. It was my daily driver the whole time I had it and it never, ever let me down. It was the most reliable car I have ever owned. It had covered about 350,000 km’s when I traded it in on my EL XR6 in 2002. I saw it parked in Ballarat a few years after I got rid of it, it had been fitted with Globe Bathurst wheels then. I don’t know what happened to it since then.
