History
My car is a Lotus 7 replica out of the UK. It was brought into Australia as a private import and was in pretty shabby condition when I purchased it. I literally pulled it down to a bare chassis, not a nut, not a bolt on it and rebuilt the entire car from the ground up, including making the side & rear panels, transmission tunnel and dash from scratch. It has been a long process but a rewarding one.
Modifications
Instead of the usual 4AGE engine generally fitted to these replicas my car has a Honda Fireblade engine fitted so as well as the lovely soundtrack of a 12,000rpm redline it also benefits of having the built in six speed sequential dog box. The output shaft uses an adaptor to run a propshaft through a Quaife reverse box mounted approximately midway in the transmission tunnel which allows the engagement of a reverse gear, well technically when the reverse box is engaged I actually have six reverse gears. The other side of the reverse box runs another propshaft to the Escort diff which is fitted with a Quaife LSD.
I have also fitted a "ProShift" kit from the UK which allows me to do flat foot upshifts without a clutch by killing the ignition for a split second to run up through the dog box, it also allows me to do clutchless downshifts as well by automatically blipping the throttle for a split second to unload the gear dogs for the downshifts.
Suspension is adjustable Protech alloy coil overs all around.
Exhaust is stainless custom pipes with a titanium muffler and air intake is via a Piper Cross "sausage filter".
Wheels are satin black powder coated RS2000 items, I was originally going to change the wheels but it turns out these only weigh around 4.5kgs each so I decided to keep them as I am trying to keep the weight of the car as low as possible.
Total weight the way it sits now is around 450kgs giving a power to weight ratio of around 300HP/Tonne.
