History
The XR Ford Falcon is known to be the first "muscle car" of Australia, and this 1968 build is one of the latest XRs built. I discovered the XR in a true blues shed in rural South Australia, where it had been sitting for 20 plus years. There is little known history on the XR, however recently the Historical Police Vehicles Registry have identified that it may have been an ex-police highway patrol vehicle. I am actively researching the history of the XR and wish anyone to provide advice or knowledge to unveil the true history of the vehicle.
Upon purchasing the vehicle in 2017, it has undergone a full nut and bolt bare-metal "father-son" restoration. The aim of the restoration was to preserve the car's history and restore to the specifications it left the factory. All rust repairs were completed including inner and outer sills, torque boxes, rear quarter panels, front guard bottoms and door skins replacement panels. The body work was finished with high quality 2pac finish to ensure years worth of shine. The interior was re-trimmed to original specification including new door cars that were pressed with the original Ford press. After 3 plus years or hard work and finesse, the XR is now back on the road!
Modifications
The XR started it's life with a high compression 200ci straight six engine that still remains with the car today (matching numbers). The original engine has been preserved and put aside, and a re-built 289 Windsor with C4 transmission has been dropped in. The old drum brake front end was replaced with a period correct restored PBR caliper front end from an XR, and front sash seat belts were installed for safety reasons and to allow vehicle registration. All modifications and upgrades were ensured to be period correct, to preserve the vehicle's history and legacy.
