History
I paid $ 1.00 for the Austin ute, that I had earned from the sale of two pairs of rabbits that I had caught that morning.
It was 1970 and I was 14 years old. After church my father drove me to the farm where the ute was parked under an old red gum tree. I negotiated the deal for $ 1.00 with the farmer. As the proud owner of my first ute I drove it home some 10 miles away. When I got home I washed the ute and after it dried out I hand painted the brown ute with a four inch brush. The colour I chose was Plum Crazy from Dulux. I had previously bought this paint from the local Permewans one stop shop, I had purchased this 1 gallon of roof paint for a dollar from the clearance bin. Also I had purchased a pint tin of yellow and orange from the bin. I later used the same four inch brush to paint the flames on the bonnet of the ute. I also modified the exhaust by cutting it off just past the fire wall and adding 2 foot of copper pipe and then a mega phone of 4 inch gal down pipe. From there I drove the ute around the farm for the next four years until I crashed it into a stump in long grass. As far as I know it still sits on that farm parked once again under a majestic red gum.
