History
The Ralliart Magna, which was unveiled at the motor show in 2001. It came out of nowhere and stunned the motoring world from a company known for their mediocrity. It was promised to have all 200kw, all wheel drive, sparco racing seats. Heaps of people jumped on the wait list. However by the time it was released in May of 2002, Mitsubishi realised they were broke and hopeless. So it had none of that, but did get 180kw, front wheel drive, some ‘bespoke’ stainless steel headers, and let’s not forget a ’racing’ cam shaft which gave it a whopping 6kw over stock. And the price, started at $48,500, in 2002. Whilst Mitsubishi was busing cocking it up, Ford had announced the XR6 turbo, which had much more power, rear wheel drive, and was $5,000 cheaper. As such, it was a flop, which started to spell the end for its local production. And for these absolutely stupid decisions, it’s the most underloved rare Australian vehicle not many people know or car about. This particular vehicle, was owned by a Mitsubishi dealership as the dealer principles vehicle for the first two years, as were a lot of those vehicles as they remained hard to move. And with less than 130,000km on it still, it’s had quite a happy and easy life. And not only is this a special 056 of the 500 made, it’s also a Magna with absolutely no clear coat failures, which is a feat in itself.
