History
I bought this bug from a lady in her 30's, who had not been driving it as much as she wished to or could, and wanted it to go to a worthy owner. She was virtually 'screening' potential owners, and decided on me because she felt I would look after it and do the right thing by it. So I feel like a custodian of a 5-owner bug that is as original as I'll ever find one - I'm just looking after it and keeping it as best as I can until I pass it onto another worthy caretaker. On December 5th 1961, the same year my car came off the line, VW produced its 5-millionth bug, which was pretty outstanding for a company that had started in a bombed-out factory in Wolfsburg after WWII.
Modifications
This bug is a highly-original, light restoration only, 6-volt 1200cc, with mint-condition ivory interior features and Pastel-Blue/White 2-tone duco, set off by whitewall tyres. It has a factory AM radio and the original roof lining inside (with 50 years of cigarette smoke stains), and this was the final year that the Beetle came without a fuel gauge, just a reserve tank switch on the floor. It's been lowered slightly to give it a nice profile, had a respray in factory Pastel Blue (which is still original under the mudguards/fenders), and had the whitewalls added (all by the third owner), and I've personally brought the interior trim back to new with a Water-Blue & Ivory door trim & upholstery. I am however, leaving the cig-tar-stained headliner trim for its character. The rest is fully-original and left as-is - no panel or floor pan rust - these things were made to last.
