History
My 1946 Mercury Eight convertible is the result of a complete “nut and bolt” restoration carried out over a two and a half year period, including a right hand drive conversion. In fact, what I started with was basically three car loads of scrap. The car features the 8BA sidevalve flathead V8, rated at 110hp, a three speed manual gearbox linked to a Columbia 2 speed (overdrive) rear axle. The car is driven regularly, including to the Saturday morning meetings of “The Donut Derelicts” in Brisbane. In 2022 we drove the car from Brisbane to the Early Ford V8 Nationals in Leeton, NSW (2,500km round trip) where my car was awarded trophies for “Best Restored” and “Judges Choice”.
