History
The Hillman Gazelle was an Australian only model. It came fitted with the British alloy head Sunbeam Rapier engine. In the UK it came as the Singer Gazelle with slightly different chrome trim and an iron head engine that produced less power. I have had several Gazelles over the years and this one would have been in the worst condition of all of them! Coming complete with significant rust, exhausted engine and gearbox, noisy diff and crumbling interior it was the perfect candidate for a total rebuild. Other than applying the paint (the original colour Embassy black) I have rebuilt every system and component myself. After forty years of various Gazelles I now have the one I always wanted.
Modifications
When I made the new dashboard I decided that I would like the full Sunbeam instrument array of oil, amps, temperature, fuel, speedo and tachometer so designed this one. I also fitted slightly wider Hillman 660 rostyle wheels, but I have also restored the original steel wheels and chrome trims.
