History
This 1987 Buick Grand National was built in the last few weeks of production before the Buick factory in Flint Michigan closed Dec 87. It was sold new in Canada in 1988 to the first owner. In 1993 a Canadian mounted Police officer purchased the vehicle and for the next 26 years the car spent most of it's life in dry storage, only coming out in dry weather. In early 2019 the car was advertised for sale on facebook marketplace. It had travelled 89,500kms. I rang the owner and found that the car had just been put back in to storage for the winter and it wont be able to move for at least 6 months. I made a deal with the seller to be the first in line to buy the car when it comes out of storage. It was a long 6 months for me but he kept his word and after some more photos a deal was made. I wanted some parts on the car changed before it shipped to Australia due to our asbestos importation laws. After explaining the situation to the seller he was very helpful and arranged for the Brake pads/shoes and some gaskets to be changed out to documented asbestos free parts. The car was then picked up and taken to a shipping company where I arranged to have some asbestos testing done before it was loaded and shipped to Adelaide. When the 20 foot container arrived I was able to help with the opening of container and unloading of the car. Most cars seem to always look better in the photo's than in person, especially black cars. I was relieved to find the car was just as good as it looked in the photo's, if not better. I put a permit on the car and with just a light touch on the accelerator turbo boost came on and I was gone. It was great! . Once home it spent a few weeks in the shed while I did some ADR compliance work on the car. Then Christmas day 2019 it was registered ready for cruising and most importantly for my daughter ice cream runs.
