History
When I bought the car, I already knew that it was a pretty special car being an XR2 Turbo. It wasn't until I got the car home that I realised just how unique this particular Capri was. I saw the papers stating Ford Australia as the owner and consequently called Ford to obtain more details, giving them engine numbers, build numbers, etc... They responded promptly and told me that this car was driven by the CEO for his personal use and was given a little 'treatment' by the Tickford factory. That perhaps explained the price tag for the car which I will decline to mention... :-) Ford sent me details of what they had done and believe me, they weren't kidding !!
I had never owned a convertible before this and can see why they are so popular (I had a hardtop to go with the car but I have hardly used it, even in winter). Those who own one will understand (especially an XR2 Turbo!!). If you don't own one, then beg, borrow or steal a ride in one to see why they are so special.
So what was so special about mine ? Well, in so far as I could tell, this is the only Capri that isn't a ClubSprint that has had Tickford Enhancements from the factory. The car had the modified suspension, larger brakes and metal pads, stronger shifter linkage mechanism, modified air intake and a higher boost pressure on the Turbo. Add to that the improved audio system, detailed suspension and upgraded electrical system and you have something a little different.
