American Motors last of the independents manufactured a wide range of vehicles including Jeep, management decided to incorporate the 4x4 system into a passenger car and produced one of the first cross over vehicles, thus was born the Eagle, not only that but it would be a luxury vehicle, PS, PB, PW, Tilt wheel, Disk Brakes,
Leather interior, Plush carpet, Cargo cover, Wood grain interior finish, added interior insulation, interior adjustable mirrors, lighted vanity mirror AM /FM radio and two way radio extra if required, full length chrome roof rack, also 4x4 could be engaged whilst in motion, no need to get out of the vehicle to engage front hubs, also vehicle had standard, skid pans to protect the underside, wood grain side panels were available to give that real outdoors country feel. The introduction of the Jeep Cherokee by AMC slowed sales and were discontinued in 1988 to concentrate on the Jeep line, AMC also introduced the Hummer at the same time.
