History
I bought this Land-Rover in 1956 from a friend who had restored it after purchasing it at a Hydro Electric Commission clearing sale. It had been used in the building of the Poatina power scheme. Apparently it had been used in the construction of the tunnel and had suffered in one or more rock falls, but nothing a hammer and a pot of Dulux couldn't fix.
I used it as my daily drive to and from Uni and it was borrowed by some law students for the 1957 Commemoration Day parade through the streets of Hobart. On the bonnet is the late Michael Hodgman who became a well known lawyer and poltiician in Tasmania and father of the current premier. I am driving as we turn from Collins into Murray streets in Hobart.
The other picture shows it with another (1953) Land Rover doing what Land Rovers were built to do on the track between Marion Bay and Rheban an Tasmania's east coast, also in 1956.
This was the first of many Land Rovers I owned. I presently drive a 1992 Discovery TDI.
