History
Was my Dad's Rod. He procured bits and pieces over a few months, then stripped the running gear from his beloved 39 Mercury and built it up in his Mums driveway in Hampton circa 1959-60, Was one of the first chop and channel Rods in Victoria, He was also one of the foundation members of the Southern Hot Rod Club and helped in the build of the Pakenham strip back in the mid 50's. Was his pride and joy, but had to reluctantly sell due to becoming a sensible married businessman. Unfortunately, I didn't get to sit down with him and get the whole story on the build before his untimely passing. He had only just made contact with some of his old mates and they were planning a get together to reminisce about the early days.
Dad built this using only basic hand tools and using the old Hampton Star bike shop workshop to do the fiddly bits. He only got to race it on the 1/8th mile at Pakenham a few times. If anyone knows the car or what happened to it, could they please contact me by liking this page.
