OWNERS: Ken and Wendy Davis
DETAILS: Preserved original condition but extensively detailed underbody. All mudguards, bonnet, engine cover and underbody repainted. Wheels repainted. Interior floor repainted and sound proofed. Rear window shelf replaced. Shocks replaced. Brakes overhauled. Engine removed and detailed.
HISTORY:
Delivered new to Mrs O M Finch on 29 March 1972.
600 mile service carried out on 9 January 1973.
3000 mile service carried out on 11 February 1975.
6000 mile service carried out on 4 August 1982.
Car purchased by Mr Paul Assange in 1983.
9000 mile service carried out on 14 April 1984.
Car purchased by Ken and Wendy Davis on 10 March 2000. At
that time the car had just 11,000 miles on the clock. The car was
serviced upon purchase and has been serviced every 12 months
since. Current mileage is just over 72,000 miles.
USEAGE:
Ken and Wendy are members of Club VeeDub and the British and European Auto
Club and attend the many events run by both clubs and other associated clubs including interstate events. A lot of fun.
The car has won a lot of trophies over the 20 years Ken and Wendy have owned the car.
COMMENT:
The Superbeetle was developed in the early seventies, from the standard beetle (which stayed in production), in a desperate effort by VW to maintain market share until the arrival of the modern water cooled models. The Superbeetle had a McPherson strut front axle, a double jointed rear axle and a much bigger front boot.
This car is a 1302 model. The 1303 model was released in 1973 with a much larger curved windscreen.
