History
The car was built for Norm Leffler and Ron Newton in 1963. It was entered in events at Warwick Farm (June and Nov 1963) and Oran Park (June 1963), an HDCC sprint meeting in May 1965, and a hill climb at Amaroo Park in June 1965. Copies of results etc are held. The car was registered for road use in NSW on 28 December 1964. The original certificate is held.
Ownership then believed to have passed to Malcolm Smith who was competing at the same time in a Honda, and in an article in the October 1968 AutoSportsman magazine (article attached) was said to being rebuilt by a young Sydney enthusiast, who could have been Malcolm Smith.
The car next appears in New Zealand owned by Patrick Fletcher when it was advertised for sale in Racing Car News May 1984. It was sold to John Huxtable in Tasmania in late 1984 and was airfreighted to Melbourne. Also attached is an interesting letter about the car written by John Medley in August 1985 to Mr Huxtable.
The next owner was Geoffrey Findlay of Perth WA who received the attached letter (and article mentioned above) from Graham Howard in 1997. The car was campaigned by Geoff in WA with the VSCC of WA Inc from 2003-4-5-6-7 and 2014 according to the log book held. Geoffrey Findlay advertised the car for sale on Gumtree earlier this year having moved with the Nota to Berry NSW. (N.B. Geoff also owns an early FJ and may be contacting GEAR about joining up).
I purchased the car, which was on full WA registration (!?) on 14 July 2016 and it was registered as a NSW Historic Vehicle on 18 August 2016.
