History
Genuine 1978 XC Interceptor.
Sold new to Victoria Police in 1978 and did its tour of duty chasing bad guys around Bright, Victoria until it was replaced by an XD in 1981. Bought by the guy who drove it, he owned it for a few years and then it changed hands twice before I bought it for the running gear for my XC coupe.
Ford built these cars for the Victoria Police Force as special orders.
So they could tune them up for a bit of extra HP, they were exempted from the emissions laws (introduced in1976?) that saw the production of all other XC Falcons (including Cobras) effectively de-tuned compared to the predecessor XB GT's. Mechanically, the motors were hand built in a similar fashion to the 'QC' motors found in the GTHO & RPO83 cars. The heavy duty FMX may have been tricked up a little and featured a transmission cooler. The disc brake 9" diff has a real low ratio with LSD. It also has the factory fitted tramp rod on the passenger side rear- not even all 5.8L XC Cobras received these.
The car was matching numbers original when I bought it as confirmed by the late Adrian Ryan - Ford Historian.
The running gear is soon to be going back into the Interceptor - currently in my XC Coupe. The Interceptor will probably then be sold as a complete matching numbers vehicle.
Photo coming soon.
Modifications
The car itself is very different mechanically to other production XC's including Cobras (see above).
However, it is all factory fitted gear so technically the car is not modified....
