History
The car came from the Darling Downs in QLD in 1983 and after failing a Roadworthy due to a sand blasted windscreen, sat in the shed fro the next 30 years. Although nearly complete, it showed signed of resprays and a few pieces of trim which were either missing or damaged. Over the years, I was able to source the missing pieces from ex-bash cars or the like.
2013 came when I had an epiphany and decided that I had to get the car on the road at all costs. 15 months later, the car finally was finished with a rebuilt engine, transmission, all suspension, XB Discs up front, a hidden VH40 brake booster and a modern alternator.
The colour is the original Silver Grey Metallic resprayed in 2 pac clear over base. The Interior is all orginal except for the replica door cards and refurbished steering wheel in it's original white colour.
Modifications
The engine uses a 6 bolt bellhousing 289 block (in lieu of the original 5 bolt block which was beyond salvage and was a Ford Reco engine so not original either), bored 20thou over, the original heads have been redone with hardened valve seats. The original 2 barrel manifold and carburetor have been used, the carb only needing a clean out and replacement gaskets. The original points distributor is being used, but plans are to convert to a "pointless" system if the points play up.
The Auto is the original with a full reco. so still has the oddball selector pattern with D1 and D2. For reliability we replaced the generator with a modern alternator which was fitted with no real mods except for a bridging out of the old regulator. The conversion to disc brakes was a mandatory as the car is not a show pony and is driven regularly. XB Brakes was sourced from an Ex-Bash car so had the minor machining to the spindles to accommodate the Fairlane ball joints already done. The VH-40 booster was hidden up under the mud guard and was fitted with an under car breather kit.
The suspension is pretty well standard with all new bushes, shockers and 2" drop coil springs in the front, the rear leafs being standard, with 50 years of sag.
