History
This '51 Packard Club Sedan is a RHD (sold in Australia) car, and was carefully owner-restored to full factory original condition over a seven year period commencing in 2006. Original owner unknown, but two previous owners (1972 onwards) are known.
It had been in poor condition, having considerable rust. However it was a very enjoyable and worthwhile project .
This is a rare ('2465') Coupe, with no other examples known to exist in Australia, and just a few existing in the USA. It had low original mileage (27,000). I did all mechanical / prep and paint / electrical work myself. Rust removal and upholstery were done by others.
Car has won two Concours prizes at Shannons Eastern Creek in recent years.
Modifications
A complete off-frame restoration was done. The car is totally original in every detail, including original paint colour (Packard Matador Maroon Metallic) with original blue and grey Broadcloth upholstery.
The 6Volt electrics have been maintained and a new wiring harness was made by the owner and fitted. The original valve radio still works well.
Engine and automatic transmission (- "Ultraglide'-) were in very good condition. Engine needed only new pistons/ rings / seals and minor parts.
Even the vacuum wiper motor was sent to the USA for refurbishment and now works perfectly. Many new / NOS parts were used wherever necessary.
The only modification made is a modern radio has been added, which is hidden from view.
