History
Purchased in Australia, from someone who imported from USA 2015. Previous owner renewed suspension, interior parts and repainted original Ontario Orange. Car is matching numbers 350 small block. Chassis had quite a bit of rust, so is currently undergoing ground up partial restoration including new chassis, upgraded power brakes and lines, new radiator, refurbished gear linkage.
30/7/16 update
Car almost complete, body back on chassis with new mounts, engine cleaned and tuned back in and connected with drive train and exhaust, new clutch, new suspension bushes, wheel aligned. Bird cage (windscreen and passenger compartment) stripped and rust proofed, all external trim (i.e. chrome, skirts etc). Brakes need adjusting, waiting on new windscreen, and wiper motor.
12/8/16 update
Proper GM windscreen to suit year model now installed, trim windscreen trim refitted and also new wiper motor installed and working. Rear suspension ride height adjusted, brakes adjusted. Wiper door panel and grill, plus wiper arms will be refitted once windscreen cures.
22/8/16 update
Partial resto completed at last 22/8 ! Everything working, take home and drive for a month while all settles in and take back to tighten. fabricated wiper washer motor bracket to fit washer motor as original u/s. sits well and looks great, goes great, feels great.
12/9/16 update
since picked up few issues after some long runs. steering ram leaking, suspension squeaks, posi-trac rear growling when turning at low speeds, and diff leaking little.
20/9/16 update
front shocks bent (thats what happens when you buy a car fitted with the cheap stuff, not only that they didn't fit properly because they were the Holden variety that would supposedly 'fit' according to some 'knowledgable' people on forums. They worked well enough when we first purchased it as they were brand new, but since the rest decided to give way, no doubt due to the fact that they don't quite fit the bolt on flange, there is a moral in that - if you want it done properly do it your self or go to someone you trust). New Koni adjustables front/rear, specific for Corvettes now going in - and they fit the bolt pattern. trying new lubricant in steering ram, seems to have solved the leak so far. Will see how the diff/positrac situation goes with the same lubricant.
1/10/16 update
Finally all done!! Brakes now stop like a new car thanks to a reworking of the power master cylinder, apparently the booster that was supposed to be made in USA had internals made in China, stops on a dime now, almost went through the windscreen! KONI's are great, improved ride and steering response. Ahh yes that diff noise, well for anyone who knows Corvettes of this vintage just make sure the circlip on the splines is still attached and not IN the diff. Yep thats right sometimes when people take the axles out the circlip can be "lost" in the diff and that is what makes the grinding noise. So new diff internals and a new accessible plug for changing the oil. Certainly no noise now.
