The completely new Lincoln Model K was produced for only the 1931-model year. Its refined 385-cubic inch V-8 featured increased compression and downdraft carburetion to deliver 120 bhp. Wheelbase increased from the 136 inches of the former Model L to 145 inches, allowing the designers to endow it with a longer, lower and more modern appearance. The transmission now featured synchromesh on second and third gears, plus freewheeling. Lincoln’s Murray Body Company produced just 387 7-Passenger Limousines, including this example with its late-production body numbered 365. Luxuriously appointed and weighing 5,525 pounds, these majestic cars were priced at an equally impressive $5,100.
Equipped with dual side-mounted spare tires and a trunk rack, this highly original example was refinished only once during the 1960s in authentic Forest Green and black with a silver accent stripe. Except for the replacement of piston rings, the original 51,000-mile V-8 engine runs well and has never been rebuilt. The current owner has removed the freewheeling device from the transmission, so it now operates conventionally. The car was sold new in Tucson, Arizona and spent much of its life in the dry Southwest. One glance at the remarkably unrestored undercarriage provides ample proof of its origin.
A glass partition separates the green leather-upholstered chauffeur’s compartment from the excellent original passenger compartment, which has broadcloth upholstery, linen window shades and comfortable carpeting. The interior hardware is original, with finishes remaining in very presentable condition and two mahogany vanities, one for a lady and the other for a gentleman, equipped with a smoking kit and a clock. An intercom offers voice communication with the driver, and a folding footrest provides additional comfort when the commodious jump seats are folded.
