The Thunderbirds of Queensland Inc. was formed and incorporated in
March 1991 as a State of Queensland alternative to the national
“Thunderbird Owners Club of Australia”. We are very proud to be a
Chapter of the International Thunderbird Club and enjoy sharing our
experiences in Queensland Australia with ITC members around the world
through our magazine and online social media sites.
In 2021 we celebrated our 30th Anniversary at the home of Doug and
Lois Appleton with a sports and trivia day and other games. A
wonderful day was held by all and included a look back at the club’s
history over the years. We were privileged to have life members in
attendance to help us celebrate this milestone.
We pride ourselves on a commitment to the preservation and
restoration of Ford’s icon, the Thunderbird, and base the club on a
firm foundation of social activities for the fun and enjoyment of our
special automobiles.
Club membership is around 90. The core group of members and a
hard-working club committee in Brisbane, the State’s capital, keep
things running smoothly and meet regularly for meetings and social events.
We organise two club runs each month which, along with other car
culture events on the calendar, makes for a busy schedule.
Members are kept up to date with club business, news and reports on
club runs by our quarterly magazine Sounds of Thunder which is
published in electronic form.
We have a very active Facebook group where photos and stories of our
club activities are shared with friends and enthusiasts around the world.
Thunderbird lovers are Ford lovers and this is reflected in our
policy of inviting owners of 30 year and older American built Fords to
join our ranks. Besides a healthy list of Thunderbirds ranging in age
from 1955 - 1988 we have a large number of other classic Fords which
include Mercury Cougars, Mustangs, Lincoln Continentals, Falcons and
Ford Galaxies, not to mention a few classics from other manufacturers.
Life is short and our social lives should be as much fun as possible,
owning a Classic Ford and being part of the Thunderbirds of Queensland
Inc. has made that fun a reality for all of us.
