The Monkittee Driving Club was established in 1996 by local
enthusiasts interested in promoting the restoration and use of
historic vehicles. The Club caters for veteran (to 1917), vintage
(1918 to 1930) and classic (1930 to 1960) motor cars and motor cycles,
collectors' bicycles, and horse drawn vehicles. The club's focus is
early vehicles, generally those built before WW2.
The Monkittee Driving Club is a legally incorporated
not-for-profit organisation and is fully RMS approved. We support and
work closely with our local Police force. All vehicles undergo a
regular safety and roadworthiness check and carry the usual
insurances. A concessional registration system is operated under RTA
guidelines and is generally intended for pre-war vehicles although
some exceptions may be made with the approval of the Committee, for
example where a vehicle is used as a tender.
Being a small rural club remote from a major centre, members
are encouraged to use their vehicles as regularly as possible, in
particular in and around the historic village of Braidwood. Informal
Club runs are held each week based from The Albion Cafe in Wallace
Street Braidwood. Picnic runs are conducted regularly and typically
begin in Braidwood and cover around a 30 km radius of the town
