The club was basically formed in the later part of 1984 by a keen
restorer of old cars Mike Gallagher and some of Mike’s mates, it was
alleged that several of the guys discussed in Mike Gallagher’s shed to
start a car club, as a result of this the club had its first ad hoc
meeting with (35) in attendance a Car Club was established and was
called the
Over 30’s Car Club. The first Steering committee
meeting was held on 6th November 1984. The club name was debated, and
all agreed the club was to be called
Newcastle Restored Vehicle Club.
The next meeting took place on the 27th November 1984 at Cardiff
Workers Club. Mike Gallagher presiding and the NRVC Constitution and
Rules were formed and handed out to members for discussion at the
club’s next meeting.
At the next meeting on the 11th December 1984 there were (25) in
attendance and the Club’s Constitution and Rules were agreed by all.
The office bearers were; President: Mike Gallagher, President Elect:
John Morton, Secretary: Paul Williams, Treasurer: Allan Williams. Some
of the members attending this meeting were - Tom Myles, Tom
Broadbent, Brian Blyth, Peter Taylor, David Mackay, John Kearns,
Steven Elliot, Rod Hocking, Ian Taylor, Steve Morton, Paul Williams,
Neville Elliott, Jeff Pickard, Darrell Smith, Doug Marshall, Ernie
Parks, Ken Michael, Bill Budd, Reub Austin, and Allan Wise.
Membership fee was $10.00 PA. The club’s first income was $290 dollars
from the 29 members. The first Club magazine was named The Good Oil
was completed by Doug Marshall. In 1988 – Newcastle Restored Vehicle
Club Inc became a registered incorporated association in NSW under
Associations Incorporation Act.
