1973 - 2003 LOOKING BACK AT 30 YEARS 2008 it's now 35 years

By Carclub - 01 December 2007
10 August 1973 The Club was founded with John Loveridge, Rohan Westmore, Peter Fountain, Ian Gliddon, John & Frank Fryirs, John Turner, Noel Smith, Fred Sharpe, Ted Summers and Max Sproule in attendance. This was the first Morris Register outside of England.

17 February 1974 5 Members, a 1927 Flatnose, 1929 Flatnose, 1947 Wolseley and two modern vehicles attended the first Club event to the NSW Rail Transport Museum at Chullora.

April 1974 The Club's first auction.

July 1974 Robbie Dowthwaite found a 1948 Z Ute at Bundanoon. A Club excursion was organised to retrieve it.

March 1976 It was reported that the Events Director broke down on the last run. The car that is, not Fred Burley.

August 1977 Saw the formation of the Victorian Branch of the Register with Ross Steel doing a lot of the work to get the branch started.

September 1977 Harry Edwards, the UK Morris Register Historian, was awarded Honorary Life Membership of the NSW Branch for services to the Club.

February 1978 The Morris 8/40 Club of SA changed its name to Morris Register Club of SA Inc.

30 April 1978 The Morris Register Club of Australia Queensland Branch was formed.

June 1978 The Club has a City to Brighton run starting at the steps of the Sydney Opera House and finishing at Brighton by the sea. Those who attended voted it the most successful in the history of the club.

October 1978 The First National Rally was held at Swan Hill, Victoria, and was attended by 40 people from the NSW Register together with members from South Australia and Victoria.

Easter 1980 Second National Rally was held at Victor Harbour, South Australia. Harry Edwards was the Special Guest at this event.

September 2003 The Morris Register lets its hair down and celebrates the Club's 30th Anniversary in style with a weekend partying away at the Dooralong Valley Resort, Central Coast. A great weekend of laughter, tears (of laughter!), games, annual awards, observation run, superb meals and service in a charming colonial cottage setting. Roll on another 30 years....!

(Update by Judy Gold - 5/6/2008) The last 5 years have just flown. We've had 3 National Rallies, 2004 to The Barossa hosted by South Australia, 2006 to Queanbeyan hosted by New South Wales and 2008 to Echuca hosted by Victoria, plus all the other fun and events during that time.
