The Historic Rally Association was founded by a group of rally enthusiasts interested in the classic and golden era of rallying. They wanted to recreate the classic rallys and compete in cars from the past that were no longer suitable or competitive for the modern rally era. These people were brought together by Bob Watson whilst he was the organiser for the Alpine Rally, then run by the the Light Car Club, in 1991 and 1992. As an add onto this event Bob Watson created a historic division for older cars. From the inaugural event, the Otways Rally in 1993, the association grew. Today it has over 800 members, has a strong following and runs iconic events such as the Alpine rally, The BP Rally as well as special events.
