Gawler Veteran, Vintage & Classic Vehicles Club came into being
because of a perceived need to bring together all district collectors,
restorers and enthusiasts of all makes of collectable vehicles and
motorcycles. On the 1982 Harris Coach Tour to the Bendigo Swap Meet
several local enthusiasts, quite a few members of ‘one make’ Clubs
based out of the Adelaide area, became acquainted. A public meeting
was called at Pettifor’s Family Restaurant in Gawler for March 20th
1984. Twentythree enthusiasts attended, and during the discussions it
was very evident that there was keen support for a locally based
‘multi make’ club, as those attending owned over 100 collectable
vehicles between them. At that meeting the G.V.V.C.V.C. was
formalised, officers elected, regular meetings planned, advertising
the Club, recruitment and future events were planned.
Our first official Club Rally was held on Sunday July 15th 1984. A
wide range of collectable vehicles attended and enthusiasm boomed.
Our First Swap Meet was held at the Gawler Racecourse on Sept. 9th 1984.
G.V.V.C.V.C. has prospered and grown and we are now in our 4th
meeting location, having outgrown the others. Most of our 23 original
Members are still present and the Club now has over 700 Members. Our
Members now have over 600 vehicles. The annual Gawler Swap Meet is
now the largest in S.A. We have around 30 Runs a year including
multi-club events and the Club promotes friendship and fun while using
our treasured vehicles.
